Bilingual Brown Babies Homeschool Curriculum: Spanish Lessons for the Black Family

Author: Dr. Kami J. Anderson  Category: Afrolatinos, Black History, Books for Parents, Culture and Heritage, Curriculum Books, Prejudice and Racism  Language: Bilingual English and Spanish More Details  Amazon
 Description:

So much has happened since I first created this curriculum in 2019. The world has changed. Pandemics, shutdowns, virtual schooling — for everybody. But through it all, I have been all up and through this book.

So I’m updating and adding content. I have shifted my perspective and seen how there are certain aspects of afrocentric curriculum that canNOT be ignored. The first is that I have added two new countries! Bolivia and the DR have been added to the mix, bringing more African flair to our rich histories in South America and the Caribbean, respectively.

New countries mean more culture! Adding careers and pop culture to the mix by talking about graffiti art and Afrolatino history in the United States.

I am also including some new research for the parents. I’ve been looking more closely at the ways in which “white gaze” negatively impacts not only how we speak day-to-day in English but also how we learn other languages.

So I’m enhancing my process and you get the benefits! You’ll see how the inclusion of slang terms in the Dominican Republic sections is more reflective of Black Spanish practices on purpose in order to normalize all the ways we speak.
